Are Dental Implants Right for You?

The solution

A permanent solution for a missing tooth

Losing a tooth affects more than your smile. It can change the way you chew, shift the teeth around the gap, and gradually affect the bone beneath the missing tooth over time. A dental implant addresses all of this by replacing both the root and the visible tooth with a stable, permanent restoration that looks and functions like the real thing.

At our Headon office, your implant treatment is completed in-house from your first assessment through to your final crown. You work with the same team at every stage, and everything is explained clearly before it begins.

Why an implant

More than a replacement tooth

Looks, feels & functions like your own tooth

Anchored into the jawbone where it fuses and functions as a stable root, with a custom porcelain crown matched to your surrounding teeth. You chew, brush, and floss as usual.

Good for your jaw, not just your smile

By replacing the tooth root, the implant keeps stimulating the jawbone, preserving bone density and keeping neighbouring teeth stable. It’s the only option that addresses bone health too.

No surprises, ever

At your consultation we take a thorough look at your teeth, gums, and bone levels, and give you a clear picture of your options and timeline before anything is scheduled.

Who it’s for

Who is a good candidate?

Most healthy adults with a missing tooth are strong candidates for a dental implant. At your consultation, we assess:

  • The health of your gums and surrounding teeth
  • The density and volume of the jawbone at the implant site
  • Your overall health and any factors that may affect healing
  • Whether any preparatory treatment is needed before placement

If additional preparation is needed, we walk you through exactly what that involves and refer you to the appropriate provider where needed.

Every patient leaves with a clear understanding of their options and next steps.

A word of advice

Act sooner, not later

Replacing a missing tooth sooner gives you the best foundation to work with. When a gap is left open, neighbouring teeth gradually drift toward it, which can affect your bite and make certain areas harder to keep clean. The bone beneath the missing tooth also begins to resorb over time.

Placing an implant while the surrounding bone and teeth are still in good condition makes for a more straightforward treatment and a more stable long-term result.

What to expect

Your dental implant treatment, step by step

Implant treatment is completed in stages over several months. Each stage is straightforward, and we make sure you know exactly what to expect before every appointment.

Step one

Consultation & assessment

Your dentist conducts a thorough assessment of your oral health, including your gum tissue, surrounding teeth, and bone levels at the implant site. We discuss your goals, answer your questions, and confirm whether you are a suitable candidate. If any preparatory steps are needed, we outline those clearly so you have the full picture before making any decisions.

Step two

Implant placement

The titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic. Sedation is available for patients who would like additional support. Once in place, the implant is left to integrate with the surrounding bone over the following months. A temporary restoration may be placed during this time to keep things comfortable and looking their best while you heal.

Step three

Integration

Over several months, the implant fuses with the jawbone through osseointegration, creating the strong, stable foundation that lets it function like a natural root. We monitor your healing throughout and confirm when you’re ready to move forward.

Step four

Crown placement

Once osseointegration is complete, we take precise impressions of your mouth and have your custom porcelain crown fabricated to match your surrounding teeth. When it is ready, the crown is attached to the implant and adjusted for a comfortable, natural fit. At this point, your restoration is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, a dental implant can last many years and in many cases a lifetime. The porcelain crown may need to be replaced over time due to normal wear, but the implant post itself is designed as a permanent restoration.
Is the procedure painful?
Implant placement is performed under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel pain during the surgery. Some mild soreness in the days following placement is normal and manageable. Most patients find the recovery more comfortable than they anticipated.
How long does the full process take?
From placement to final crown, the full treatment typically takes several months to allow adequate time for osseointegration. The exact timeline depends on your individual healing and whether any preparatory treatment was needed. We provide a realistic estimate at your consultation.
Am I a good candidate for a dental implant?
Most healthy adults with a missing tooth are strong candidates. The key factors are gum health, jawbone density at the implant site, and overall health. A consultation is the best way to find out, and we will give you a straightforward answer based on a thorough assessment.
What if I do not have enough bone for an implant?
If bone density at the implant site needs to be built up before placement, we will explain what that involves and refer you to the appropriate provider. Once the site is ready, treatment can proceed as planned.
How do I care for a dental implant?
Implants are cared for just like natural teeth. Brush twice daily, floss around the implant, and keep up with your regular hygiene appointments.
