Protection Players Will Want to Wear

A mouthguard only helps when it's in the mouth, and comfort is what keeps it there. We make custom sports mouthguards for kids, teens, and adults from a digital scan. Each one fits closely and stays put through every shift, period, and half.

A Snug Fit All Game

A guard made from your scan follows the shape of your teeth, so it holds on with very little effort from you. Players don't need to bite down to keep it in place, which keeps their jaw relaxed and their focus on the play. A guard that feels good gets worn at every practice and game, and that's when it can do its job.

Breathe, Talk, and Hydrate Easily

Loose, bulky guards often end up chewed, pulled out, or left in the bag. A custom fit sits closer to the teeth, so players can breathe hard through a shift, call out to teammates, and take a drink on the bench with the guard in. That everyday comfort is what turns wearing a mouthguard into a habit for kids and adults alike.

Shielding Teeth, Lips, and Dental Work

A properly fitted guard covers the edges of your teeth and helps cushion the force of a hit. That helps protect against chipped teeth, knocked-out teeth, and cuts to the lips and cheeks. If you have crowns, bridges, or implants, a guard helps protect the care you've already invested in. Players in braces can ask their dentist about the right guard for their stage of treatment.

Why You Want to Avoid Mouth Injuries

Sports are a big part of growing up in Burlington, from minor hockey to weekend soccer. One hit to the face can lead to injuries that take time and treatment to fix, such as:

  • Chipped and broken front teeth. A stick, ball, elbow, or fall can break a tooth in a split second, and repairs may need more than one visit.
  • Knocked-out adult teeth. Replacing a lost permanent tooth can mean years of treatment, so protecting it in the first place is far simpler for your family.
  • Cuts to the lips, cheeks, and tongue. Teeth can cut soft tissue on impact, and a guard places a smooth layer between them.
  • Damage to braces and dental work. A hard hit can break brackets or crack a crown, which means extra appointments and time away from the game.

Protecting a healthy tooth is almost always simpler and more affordable than repairing one.

Athletes Who Need a Guard

Anyone whose sport involves contact, falls, or flying equipment can benefit from a guard made for their teeth, including:

  • Kids in minor sports. Hockey, soccer, basketball, and lacrosse all bring tumbles and contact, and young players' front teeth are especially exposed.
  • Teens in competitive play. Faster games and harder hits call for a guard comfortable enough to stay in until the final whistle.
  • Adults in rec leagues. Weekend hockey, rugby, and martial arts carry a real risk of mouth injuries at any age.
  • Players in braces. Brackets and wires can cut the lips and cheeks during contact, so a guard that works with treatment is worth asking about.
  • Patients with dental work. Crowns, bridges, and implants are worth protecting every time you suit up.

What to expect

From Scan to First Game

A custom sports guard usually takes a short scan visit and a fitting visit.

Step one

Tell Us About Your Sport

We'll ask what you play and how often you're on the ice, field, or mat. Your dentist checks your teeth, gums, and bite, and for kids, how their adult teeth are coming in.

Step two

Your Digital Scan

A small wand captures a 3D model of your teeth while you relax in the chair. The scan is contact-free, with no trays or impression putty, and kids often enjoy watching their teeth appear on the screen.

Step three

Your Guard Is Made

Your mouthguard is crafted from your digital model to match the shape of your teeth. We'll let you know when it's ready, so it helps to book well before the season starts.

Step four

Fitting Day

We check how the guard sits, how it feels, and how easily you can talk and breathe with it in. After any small adjustments, we'll show you how to clean and store it.

Step five

Refits as Kids Grow

Bring the guard to your regular checkups. For growing kids and teens, we can rescan and make a new guard whenever changing teeth affect the fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old should my child be for a custom sports mouthguard?
Kids can benefit from a guard as soon as they play sports with contact or falls. Because children's teeth change as baby teeth come out and adult teeth come in, their guard may need replacing more often. Your dentist will advise on timing based on your child's mouth.
Why choose a custom guard over a boil-and-bite?
Boil-and-bite guards are shaped at home and can end up loose or bulky. A custom guard is made from a scan of your teeth, so it fits closely, stays in place, and lets players talk and breathe more easily. Comfort is a big reason athletes keep wearing theirs.
Will a mouthguard make it hard to breathe or talk?
A custom guard sits close to your teeth, so most players can breathe, call plays, and drink water with it in. Some athletes need a few practices to get used to it. If talking still feels awkward after that, let us know and we'll check the fit.
Can my child wear a mouthguard with braces?
Yes, and a guard is especially helpful with braces, since brackets can cut the lips and cheeks on impact. Teeth move during orthodontic treatment, so the guard needs to allow for that. Your dentist will recommend the best option for your child's stage of treatment.
Which sports call for a mouthguard?
Any sport with contact, falls, or flying equipment. Hockey, football, rugby, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, and martial arts are common examples. Some leagues require mouthguards, so check your league's rules too.
Is the digital scan easy for kids with a strong gag reflex?
Many kids and adults with a sensitive gag reflex find the scan easy, since it's contact-free and the wand is small. We go at your child's pace. If something feels uncomfortable, we stop and take a break.
How often should a sports mouthguard be replaced?
Replace your guard if it's cracked, torn, chewed, or feels loose. Kids and teens often need a new guard as their teeth change, sometimes as often as each season. We'll check the fit at your regular visits and let you know.
How should we clean and store the mouthguard?
Rinse it after every practice or game, brush it gently with a soft toothbrush, and let it dry before putting it in its case. Keep it out of hot cars and sunny spots, since heat can warp it. A clean case helps the guard stay fresh between games.
Can I use my nightguard for sports?
Nightguards and sports mouthguards do different jobs. A nightguard protects against grinding pressure during sleep, and a sports guard is made to help absorb impact during play. If you need both, your dentist can design each one from the same digital scan.
Will insurance cover a custom sports mouthguard?
Some plans include custom mouthguards, and coverage varies from one policy to the next. We bill using the Ontario Dental Association fee guide and send claims straight to your insurer. You'll know the cost before we start making your guard.
