Restoring Smiles Across Southeast Burlington

Dental Crowns & Bridges in Southeast Burlington, ON

When a tooth needs more than a filling can provide, our LIV office offers reliable, long-lasting restorations for patients across Appleby, Shoreacres, and the surrounding area.

Solutions Built Around What Your Smile Needs

A crown or bridge affects how your teeth function, how your bite distributes pressure, and how the surrounding teeth and bone respond over time. At our LIV office, every restoration begins with a thorough assessment of your full oral health, not just the tooth in question, so the treatment we recommend actually addresses the underlying situation.

Precision From the First Appointment

The long-term success of a crown or bridge depends on the accuracy of the preparation and impressions taken at your first appointment. A well-fitted restoration seats correctly, integrates naturally with the bite, and holds up reliably over years of daily use. We take the time at this stage to get the measurements and impressions right, so your permanent restoration fits accurately and feels comfortable from the moment it is placed.

Porcelain Matched to Your Smile

Our crowns are fabricated in porcelain by a dental laboratory and matched to the colour, shape, and contour of your surrounding teeth. The shade, surface texture, and proportions of the restoration are all considered during fabrication so the finished result integrates naturally into your smile.

Coordinated Care From Start to Finish

Your entire crown or bridge treatment is managed by the team at our LIV office, from assessment through to final placement. Your records, impressions, temporary restoration, and follow-up care are all handled in one place by the same people, so your care stays connected and consistent throughout.

What Are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown encases the entire visible portion of a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its full strength and function. It is recommended when decay, cracking, or trauma has affected the tooth’s structural integrity to the point where a filling is not the most reliable long-term solution. Crowns also play an important role following root canal treatment. A tooth that has been treated with a root canal benefits significantly from crown placement, which protects the tooth and allows it to continue functioning normally for years to come.

What Are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth by spanning the gap with a false tooth, called a pontic, anchored by crowns placed on the natural teeth on either side. The result is a fixed, non-removable restoration that restores the full function and appearance of the missing tooth and is maintained with the same routine as natural teeth. Whether a bridge is the right solution depends on the health and position of the teeth adjacent to the gap. We assess these carefully at your consultation and walk you through your options clearly before any decisions are made.

The Value of Replacing a Missing Tooth Promptly

Addressing a missing tooth sooner rather than later gives us the most straightforward path to a stable, lasting result. Replacing the tooth while the surrounding bone and adjacent teeth are still in good condition means a more predictable restoration and better long-term outcomes for the surrounding dentition. A bridge placed early is a clean, well-supported solution that preserves the alignment and health of your smile for years ahead.

What to expect

What to Expect When You Get a Crown or Bridge

Crown and bridge treatment at our LIV office is completed over two appointments.

Step one

Appointment One: Preparation

Your dentist administers a local anaesthetic before beginning. The tooth receiving the crown is shaped and reduced to create space for the restoration. For a bridge, both anchor teeth are prepared in the same way. Precise impressions of the prepared teeth and your bite are taken and sent to the dental laboratory. A temporary restoration is placed to protect the prepared tooth and maintain your comfort and appearance while the permanent one is being made.

Step two

Laboratory Fabrication

Your porcelain restoration is custom-fabricated to the specifications of your impressions, matched to the colour and contour of your surrounding teeth. Fabrication typically takes one to two weeks. We contact you as soon as it arrives.

Step three

Appointment Two: Placement

The temporary is removed and the permanent restoration is seated. Your dentist checks the fit, the margins, the bite relationship, and the appearance before cementing it in place. Any adjustments needed to ensure the restoration functions correctly with the rest of your teeth are made at this appointment before you leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a crown or a filling?
The deciding factor is how much healthy, intact tooth structure remains. When enough is present to support a filling reliably, that is what we recommend. When a tooth has been significantly affected by decay, a fracture, or a large existing restoration, a crown provides the full coverage and strength needed for a durable long-term result. We always recommend the most conservative option that genuinely meets the clinical need.
How long do porcelain crowns and bridges last?
With consistent oral hygiene and regular hygiene appointments, porcelain crowns and bridges can last many years. We monitor all restorations at your regular visits and address any changes in fit, wear, or surrounding tissue early.
Are crowns and bridges covered by insurance?
Most plans provide partial coverage for crowns and bridges as restorative treatments. Coverage varies by plan. We recommend confirming your benefits before your appointment and are happy to help you understand what applies to your situation before treatment begins.
Is the preparation appointment painful?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. Some sensitivity around the prepared tooth in the days following is normal and settles as the tooth adjusts. We give you clear guidance on what to expect and how to manage any post-appointment discomfort before you leave.
What is a temporary crown and how should I care for it?
A temporary crown protects the prepared tooth while the permanent restoration is being made. It is not cemented as firmly as a permanent crown, so we recommend avoiding sticky or hard foods on that side during the interim period. Contact us if it comes loose or causes any discomfort.
How do I clean around a bridge?
The pontic sits against the gum tissue and benefits from cleaning underneath as well as around it. Floss threaders or interdental brushes are the most effective tools for this. We demonstrate the correct technique at your placement appointment so you leave knowing exactly how to maintain it.
What happens if a crown becomes loose?
Contact us promptly. We will assess the situation and re-cement or replace the restoration as quickly as possible. In the meantime, keep the crown safe and avoid chewing on that side.
Can a bridge replace more than one consecutive missing tooth?
Yes, depending on the number of teeth involved and the condition of the anchor teeth. We assess these carefully at your consultation and let you know whether a bridge is the most appropriate solution for your specific situation.
Will my crown or bridge look different from my natural teeth?
No. Porcelain restorations are shade-matched and fabricated to the contour and proportions of your surrounding teeth. The colour, shape, and surface texture are all accounted for during the fabrication process.
What if I need both a crown and a bridge?
Both can be planned and sequenced as part of a single treatment plan. At your consultation, your dentist will assess the full picture, explain the recommended sequence, and outline a clear path forward that addresses both needs efficiently.
