Your Trusted Emergency Dentists in Southeast Burlington

Dental emergencies are stressful, and the quality of care you receive in the first hours matters. At our LIV office, we reserve time in our schedule for patients who need urgent attention, assess the situation thoroughly, and make sure every patient leaves with a clear understanding of what was done and what comes next.

We Move Quickly Because Timing Matters

For many dental emergencies, acting promptly preserves options that would otherwise be lost. A knocked-out tooth has the best chance of survival within the first hour. An infection addressed early responds to treatment more readily. When you call us, we’ll assess your situation over the phone, advise you on any immediate steps, and get you in at the earliest available time.

Comfort Before Anything Else

Before we discuss treatment or next steps, we focus on making you comfortable. Local anaesthetic is administered before any procedure begins, and we check in throughout your appointment to make sure you’re managing well. Getting you comfortable first ensures you can participate meaningfully in decisions about your own care.

You’ll Leave With a Full Picture

Your visit ends with a clear conversation. We’ll explain what we found, what was treated, what to watch for during recovery, and whether any follow-up care is needed. You’ll leave with written aftercare instructions and a specific plan in place.

Common Dental Emergencies

We treat a wide range of urgent dental situations, including:

  • Severe or persistent tooth pain
  • Cracked, chipped, or fractured teeth
  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Lost or broken fillings or crowns
  • Dental abscesses or swelling in the mouth or jaw
  • Teeth that have been pushed out of position
  • Soft tissue injuries to the lips, tongue, or gums

If you’re unsure whether your situation requires urgent attention, call us. We’d rather help you make that determination over the phone than have you wait on something that needs prompt care.

What to Do Before You Come In

Taking the right steps before you arrive can significantly affect the outcome of your treatment.

  • Knocked-out tooth: handle the tooth by the crown only. Rinse it gently with water if needed, place it back in the socket if possible, or keep it moist in milk or saliva. Call us immediately.
  • Cracked or fractured tooth: rinse gently with warm water and avoid chewing on that side. Call us as soon as possible.
  • Lost filling or crown: keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. If the crown is intact, dental cement from a pharmacy can hold it temporarily. Contact us to arrange an appointment.
  • Dental abscess or swelling: rinse with warm salt water and call us right away. Prompt professional treatment gives infections the best chance of resolving quickly and completely.
  • Soft tissue injury: apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth. If bleeding is significant or doesn’t stop, seek emergency medical care.

When in doubt, call us first: we can guide you through the right steps based on your specific situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifies as a dental emergency?
Any situation involving significant pain, trauma to the mouth or teeth, a lost or broken restoration, swelling, or signs of infection warrants a prompt call to our office. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll help you determine the right course of action.
Do I need to call ahead?
Yes. Calling ahead allows us to prepare for your arrival, advise you on steps to take at home in the meantime, and make sure we have everything ready to treat you effectively when you arrive.
Are you available for emergencies outside of business hours?
We provide emergency dental care during regular business hours. For situations outside of those hours, we recommend contacting an after-hours dental clinic. For severe swelling, difficulty breathing, or bleeding that doesn’t stop, please go to your nearest emergency room.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Handle the tooth by the crown only and avoid touching the root. Rinse it gently if needed, then place it back in the socket if possible, or store it in milk or saliva. Call us immediately, as prompt care gives the tooth the best chance of being saved.
Can a cracked tooth be restored?
In most cases, yes. The right treatment depends on the location and extent of the crack. Minor cracks may be addressed with bonding or a crown, while more significant fractures may involve additional treatment. Prompt assessment gives us the most options to work with.
What is a dental abscess?
A dental abscess is a localized infection that develops inside a tooth or in the surrounding gum tissue. It typically causes significant pain and swelling and requires professional treatment to resolve. Prompt care leads to the best outcomes.
Will I be in pain during my emergency appointment?
Relieving your discomfort is our first priority. Local anaesthetic is administered before any treatment begins, and most patients feel significant relief during or immediately following their appointment.
My filling fell out but I have no pain. Should I still call?
Yes. A lost filling leaves the underlying tooth structure exposed and more vulnerable to further damage. Getting it assessed and restored promptly keeps a manageable situation from becoming a more involved one.
How much will emergency treatment cost?
The cost depends on what treatment your situation requires. We discuss costs clearly before anything begins, and if you have dental insurance, we submit your claim on your behalf.
How can I reduce the likelihood of dental emergencies?
Consistent preventive care is the most reliable foundation. Regular checkups allow us to identify and address concerns before they become urgent. Wearing a properly fitted mouthguard during contact sports and attending to dental concerns promptly also go a long way.
