A Comfortable Plan for Problem Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth that are stuck, sore, or hard to clean can put the molars next to them at risk. Our team at LIV checks how yours are growing in, explains what we see, and removes the ones that need to come out. You'll know the reasons behind every recommendation before you decide.

Comfort Options at Both Offices
You can choose the level of comfort that suits you, at LIV or at our sister office. Topical gel and local freezing keep you comfortable here at LIV. If you'd like laughing gas or moderate IV sedation, we'll book your extraction at our Headon office, with your records already shared. Topical gel before freezing makes the injection gentler for you.
Experience You Can Lean On
The team behind your care includes dentists who keep building their skills. Dr. Samson So, a General Dentist on our team, also serves as a Surgical Associate in Western University's Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Division. Dr. Manor attends continuing education courses and builds a team that shares that commitment. When a case is best handled by a specialist, your dentist will tell you directly and help arrange the referral.
Removal Only When Needed
Conservative care means we protect healthy teeth and treat the ones causing trouble. Wisdom teeth that sit well and stay clean can often remain, with a quick check at your regular visits. Teeth that are trapped, infected, or harming a neighbour are flagged early, while treatment is simpler. Every recommendation comes with a plain-language explanation and a cost review before anything is booked.
Why Some Wisdom Teeth Cause Problems
Your wisdom teeth, or third molars, usually arrive in your late teens or early twenties, after the rest of your adult teeth have claimed most of the space. When room runs short, these teeth may become impacted, meaning stuck below the gum or tilted against another tooth. Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to:
- Infection around the gums, as bacteria collect under the flap of gum that partly covers the tooth.
- Decay in the second molar, since the tight space between the two teeth is very hard to reach with a brush or floss.
- Ongoing soreness and swelling that flares up again and again, often at inconvenient times.
- Cysts, in rare cases, which are fluid-filled sacs that can damage bone and the roots of nearby teeth.
Catching these issues on an X-ray lets you plan removal on your own schedule.
When to Have Your Wisdom Teeth Checked
Many people only learn about a problem wisdom tooth once it starts to hurt. Book a visit if you notice:
- A dull ache behind your last molar. Pressure from a tooth trying to erupt often shows up as pain at the back of the jaw.
- Gums that look puffy or red at the back of your mouth. Inflamed gum tissue over a wisdom tooth can signal infection.
- An unpleasant taste that lingers after brushing. Bacteria trapped around a partly erupted tooth can cause a stubborn taste or odour.
- Difficulty opening your mouth fully. Swelling near the jaw joint can make chewing and yawning uncomfortable.
- A teen who is due for a wisdom tooth check. X-rays during the teen years show how these teeth are forming and help you plan ahead.

We've got you covered
We work with all providers and follow Ontario's fee guide at both locations, so there are never any surprise costs. Give us a call or book online and we'll happily sort out the details with you.
Your Extraction, Start to Finish
Review Your X-Rays
Your dentist reviews X-rays to see where each wisdom tooth sits, how its roots are shaped, and how close it is to nearby nerves. You'll talk through which teeth need attention and what treatment involves. Costs are covered in that same conversation.
Plan Your Comfort
Many extractions are done here at LIV with local freezing. If you'd like laughing gas or moderate IV sedation, we'll book your extraction at our Headon office. For IV sedation, we'll share your pre-appointment instructions, including the need for a trusted adult to drive you home and stay with you.
Your Extraction
Topical gel and local freezing numb the area first. Your dentist then carefully removes the tooth, sometimes in smaller sections to make removal easier on the surrounding bone. Stitches may be placed to support healing.
Aftercare and Follow-Up
Before you leave, you'll get aftercare instructions for managing soreness, eating, and keeping the site clean. Swelling usually peaks in the first few days and then settles. Our team is a phone call away if anything feels off.
